Welcome to the Yale Daily News Online Blog!

Jump to CommentsWelcome to the Yale Daily News Online blog! We decided to start this to give you an inside look into the operations of YaleDailyNews.com. We’re going to talk about all sorts of different things – new online content we produce, technical challenges we face, decisions we’re faced with, and more.
The current site has been completely rebuilt since October 2006. The new backend (what runs the site behind the scenes) was launched on January 8, 2007 with new features like improved search and a more secure user system. More functionality was added over the next months, but the next landmark was the launch of the redesign on November 8, 2007. The layout was completely redone, and it included major new features like commenting and tagging.
Most importantly, it represented the completion of the transition to completely original code – everything on the site, both frontend and backend, has been developed or overseen by Yale Daily News staff. That has enabled us to tweak and develop it into what it is today.
We’re not going to stop. Work is already underway to add major new additions to the Web site, and we’re constantly adding features and functionality. Since the first of this year, we have launched an official Yale Daily News Facebook application and our elections blog, Yale on the Trail. More is on the way.
We’re very excited to have a chance to talk about the work we’re doing. Keep an eye on this blog for more updates.
